- Benefits
What does this course material add over what you can read in the Agile Web Development with Rails AWR book? Mostly it adds exercises that let you check your learning. It also adds a long chapter on Ruby, tips about useful plugins and resources, advanced testing techniques, best practices, and a look at what’s new in the upcoming Rails 2.0 release.

- Prerequisites
You have done database backed web programming before and are familiar with basic concepts in object orientation. You have worked through a tutorial such as “Rolling with Rails” or built the Depot application in the AWR book. I highly recommend having the AWR book as well as the Programming Ruby book at hand when learning Ruby and Rails. The slides and exercises in this course material should be seen as a complement to those and other books.

- About the author
Peter Marklund works as a freelance Ruby on Rails developer and instructor in Stockholm, Sweden. Peter has been doing web development since 2000 and was introduced to Ruby on Rails in 2004 by David Heinemeier Hanson. He has developed several commercial Rails applications, has done technical review for the books “Beginning Ruby on Rails E-Commerce” and “Beginning Ruby” and has contributed a chapter for the book “Advanced Rails Recipes”. Peter wrote a series of articles on Ruby on Rails for the swedish computer magazine DatorMagazin and has held Rails presentations and courses at several companies in Stockholm. Peter taught the “I Go Ruby” 5 day Ruby on Rails course at the end of June 2007 – the first Rails course in Sweden. Peter maintains a weblog on Ruby on Rails at http://marklunds.com.
